my first ever CON. there are a bunch of things i know to do differently, but overall it was a badass time. i made some kickass new friends and experienced some fantastically fucked up sperging, but otherwise i wish i could do it all again this weekend. i ended up stupidly taking almost zero photos, which was dumb, but hopefully there will soon be a “next time.”
yes, hello Tumblr. an amazing costuming friend of mine has been going to Cons fairly frequently for the last few years, and i have finally seized the opportunity to go to one with her. she makes some really spectacular, accurate costumes, and she’s really inspired me to perhaps start getting real with cons.
for this con, the group of folks i’ll be spending my time with had already decided to do a Fallout group as one of their costumes, so i went in with them (even though I haven’t played Fallout, haha). we’re all going to be a gang of raiders. i found a decent photo online of a Fallout raider that i’m mostly trying to match, though i am taking a few liberties.
for these wrist armor pieces, i found two shinguards at a used sports store and spray painted them black and metallic. i then made all the spikes out of clay and baked them so they’d be nice and solid. i glued each spike to a washer, and glued a few smaller washers around to give it that metal-work feel. i then spent an hour per piece meticulously layering paint with a sponge and a brush and fine grain sand to give it that rusty feel. i’m REALLY proud of them for my first pieces ever, and had to poooost. there will be more pics when the rest of the costume comes together, and plenty after the con! <3 later bitchesss
